PLEASE NOOOOO!

Lots of pictures here because they are such poor quality I'm hoping Uncle Chris (MD) can see something from them. I think Abby might have the chicken pox. Opinions welcome! A little back round..... She, as I previously posted , has had a snotty cold for over a week. I took her to the Doctor on Thursday and they put her on a kiddy Z pack. So on Friday my Mom kept her. When I picked her up that afternoon it looked like she had been attacked by a flock of mosquito's. She had at least 5 bites over her left temple area/forehead and the one you see below next to her eye. She was scratching away. I fussed at my Mom for not putting any bug spray on her then didn't think anymore about them. That night I found 2 more bites on her left shoulder and 3 bites on her chest when I bathed her. Still not thinking much about them. That night I turned off the air and opened all the windows. This morning she was still scratching but I didn't see anything new. Awhile late I noticed she was scratching at her leg. Low and behold 3 more bites. I'm thinking great there must be a hole in one of my screens and another mosquito got her. I closed all the windows and turned the air back on. Fast forward to this afternoon and I'm finding more, mostly on her stomach and back. Now tonight they are on her left arm, armpit, more on her legs and her right hip. I counted 30 alone on her stomach and left arm. They are red, some look clear tho and maybe a little red around the edges, some look like pimples. I googled chicken pox but I just don't know..... Plus I'm pretty sure she had the vaccine. I read it's only 70 to 90% effective. I haven't heard of it being around at daycare or anywhere for that matter. Plus she spent some time with her cousin Josh who is less then a year old! She isn't acting sick either as evidenced by the video at the end of this post. her appetite has not been up to par but I attributed it to her cold. Maybe a little clingy tonight but I thought she was tired. tonight I gave her motrin, her zithromax, and some benadryl. Poor thing was scratching away until she fell asleep. I'm wondering if she could have a mild case since she had the vaccine and that's why she isn't acting like she feels bad. She hasn't had a fever either tho I hadn't officially checked.

Hi there - Calamine Lotion - yep the ole pink stuff - (don't give her benedryl and topical benedryl - could cause an overdose (per K's dr) one or the other is just fine they said...who knew???

K had some odd "rash" thing when she was about this age - all the drs at her peds thought it was either "just a rash"...or a mild case of CP...anyway - we stayed home until they were cleared up - hope it is just a "rash" as they say - makes me itchey thining about it....
Hope it goes away super fast!

So, have I been vindicated? Doesn't look like cp to me. Obviously she hasn't been exposed to nickle in all those spots either. I'm tired and can't think but I know there is something you can put in a bath for her to help allieve the itching. Nanny used it for you guys when you all had cp. I'll see if I can findthe pix from then so you can compare. xo's meema.

My daughter had chick pox at 12 and I had them at 32. We ran fevers every evening. Your little honey looks like she has mosquito bites on very tender skin.

Okay...I'm no expert...but with this latest bout of nasties that Leila has, she got what I considered "hives". She got them on her leg, so I put some hydrocortisone cream on them, and they disappeared in 15 minutes. Later that day her upper lip swelled up...and I started freaking thinking her throat may close up next. I gave her benedryl (she's old enough) and it didn't help, but she went to sleep and woke up the next morning okay, although I checked on her A LOT that night. Then last night, a week later...she got a bunch of "mosquito" bites on both her arms...used the hydrocortisone cream again, and again, they were gone in 15 minutes. So I don't know why it happened...but the cream worked for us...and maybe these little hive things are related to this bug that's going around...that my child has chosen to share with me, which caused me to miss 3 days of work last week.

Maybe a reaction to the Zpack? Lil didn't react to the amox. until the 2nd or third round of it. We used PO bendaryl and topical cortaid cream....and I think your mom is thinking of baking soda in the bath...we used it with some luck (and Lil loved adding it to the water)...good luck!

Doesn't look like chicken pox to me. Just my 2 cents. Maybe fifth disease? COmmon at this age.

Hope she feels better soon!

not to scare you or anything, but Daily Press had an article on the front page about 2 weeks ago about bedbugs and how they are seeing more cases in the area- might have gotten them at daycare with lots of other kids- I'd put cortisone 10 cream on her and wash her sheets. just a thought- hope she gets better soon!

My little one had the CP (very mild after she had the vaccine, but they looked more like white heads. Also, she had been known to get hives after a few days on certain antibiotics. Maybe a reaction to the Z-Pack. Either way, mild CP or hives, or even bug bites, I would get Baby Oatmeal Bath. Very soothing.

there is an outbreak here of chicken pox. could be just a viral thing. usually with cp the fever comes first then the outbreak same with like scarlet fever etc. hope you get an answer. could it be fleas from outside?

If it's chicken pox the calamine lotion and a dose of Benadryl!
