Opinions please

High chair or booster seat??? I had decided on a booster seat but people at work seem to think a high hair would be better. What do you all think?

We got a Stokke chair for Sophie before we got home. She was 11 months old and I was sure we would need to buy a high chair too...but we did not. We love the Stokke and she does too. She can get up in it by herself and the height is adjustable as they grow. It comes in many great colors also! We loved it so much that we purchased a second one for Sophie's Mei Mei! :)

We purchased both of ours new on Ebay! Here is a link to their website.

We got this clip on seat (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265739&cp=2256180.2256180&viewAll=topSellers&pmc=1&parentPage=viewall) and loved it. Sophia was 11 months old. When she outgrew it, she sat in a simple booster seat. Never used a high chair. It took up too much room, and the clip on seat was great, we could (but didn't much) take to restaurants or gatherings. Loved it!

I for sure a High chair. Why? I think when you are single, it is like having an extra pair of hands. You can place the kiddo in the chair which confines her while playing or eating or hanging out coloring, etc and you can actually accomplish something while Abby is being confined and entertained. The high chair should have wheels, height adjustment, and removable tray that goes into the dishwasher. Also get the clip on seat and a booster seat.... I have seen both these items at yard/tag sales. I will leave the clip on in the car and keep the booster so I have one more place for one of Tate's little friends to use whil visiting.....These three items are really pretty inexpensive.

Just what I have decided to do...

I say booster that straps to the chair. That's what we're going to go for just for the simple fact that we don't have room for a high chair! lol. However I just spent 15 minutes on the Stokke sight that someone linked here, and now hubby and I think we're gonna go with that chair instead!

I'm choosing to go with a high chair.

I think either would work but for myself I like the stability a high chair can offer. Some booster seats (not all) are a little less secure and since I'll be on my own (and also because a lot of the babies are younger coming home) I'm going the high chair route.

I have the fisher price healthy care booster seat which functions like a high chair, but it just fits on top of a chair. I like it because it doesn't take up extra space in the dining room but you still can strap her in and also it has two dishwasher safe trays. TO me it seems the best of both worlds.

I think that a booster would be just fine. We had a high chair handed down to us, but I suspect that we will be using a booster more often.

I'm buying a high chair for the same reason that Lisa said. I need a place I can confine her so that I can get things done. Sad but true. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do when you're on your own. LOL!

Not sure myself, but I think we are going to go for the booster seat.

I bought a high chair but its just too big for my little kitchen nook. I am going to sell it and get a booster.

you always have great questions. I love to visit here!

Well....since you asked.

I registered (and unregisterd twice) for a highchair. Then decided OK - I do want one. Got it at the shower....tried to set it up everywhere. Too big. Took it back. Got the booster seat. Hated the way it looked at the table. Too low and couldn't push the chair in under the table. Kept it as can use it for something, but went back and got a highchair. LOVE it. We have a center island (small one) in the kitchen. I put it between the 2 chairs we have there and pull out when needed. Its an Eddie Bauer, and I just love it.

I would think booster/clip chair but I was given a high chair so I'll be using it.

My sis just brought up a high chair (and my crib!) from her sister in law (hand me downs), and being single, I'd planned on the high chair anyway.

I bought the fisher price healthy care booster seat. It seems to be something that can go from highchair (well it's actually strapped to a seat) and then it can be converted into a booster seat. I am all over things that can be converted and are space savers!!

Hey Jen:
We went with the Svan Convertable High Chair for Jainy..it's great, completely adjustable from Infant (6m) to Adult. Plus, you can pick the finish to the wood and the colors to the cushions. It's expensive, but it will grow with Jain and maybe even follow her to college as a computer or desk chair. Plus, it's lightweight and has an incredibly small footprint. The best part is the fact that she can get up and down from it on her own now-- perfect for an independent toddler...I just love it! See what you think:

We bought a hig chair. We'll see how it goes...if it doesn't work out, then on to something else.

Lisa...again.

I have a high chair and like it for the safety reason. I can keep her in the kitchen while I cook and she can eat or color. Coloring is great in the chair because she can't get it on the floors or walls. Get one with wheels because it is so easy to move around. When I am alone I can drag her with me while she eats or snacks and the mess stays on her tray.
Good luck on your chose.

We had a highchair given to us but Annslee was 13 months old when she came home so we never used it. She loved the booster and highchairs get so GROSS!

Sooooo, what was the verdict??? :)

I saw a special on 60 minutes about 4 years ago about how booster seats are very dangerous for children in accidents. I won't go into details, but they were fatal. We used a high chair for Taylor and it worked out fine.

oops.. I was talking about a high-back car seat rather than the booster seat) in the car, not at the dinner table.

Having adopted a 12 month old from China who was very small at adoption, I would go with the "portable high chairs" that attach to a dining room chair like a booster seat. Most high chairs are designed poorly for a petite Asian child. The tray is too high and they disappear in it and have a hard time feeding themselves. Once your daughter is big enough for a booster seat you can stop using the tray and continue using the same seat at the regular dinner table. If I had to do it over again, I would forgo the expense of a full fledge high chair and go straight for that seat. Oh and cleaning is so much easier when you can take the whole thing and stick it in the sink!
