New Mommy 101

I just love my little girl! I hope she doesn't hold my mistakes against me later. Please don't flame me but I thought I would share plus I'm sure we will laugh about this one day..... Last night Auntie L went home for some much needed rest. Miss A and I were on our own. She had skipped her morning nap then Uncle Chris, Erin and Cj came over to play. She had a great time (Why didn't I take pictures??) She went down for her PM nap around 230 an I woke her up around 6. We played, had dinner, hung out in her room while I put things away and by 9pm she was yawning. I put her to bed and went down my self around 10pm. She is currently sleeping in the pack and play in my room. My brother still needs to drop the crib mattress for me (Hint Hint). Anyhoo, I wake to Mamma, Mamma (oh yeah, that's me) and cute little miss is standing up in the pack and play peering over at me. I get her out and go get her a bottle, of course she spies one of the cats and it became clear that she wasn't going back to sleep anytime soon. (did I mention it was 1245 am???) WE played until 230 am while I organised her sock drawer and got rid of all of the tights and socks that were to0 big or too small. Then she went back down.

530n Am and I wake to Mamma! Up again, I can hardly keep my eyes open I am so tired and still aching in all my joints. I go get her another bottle and bring her to bed with me. I must have dosed off cause next thing I know I hear a thud and she had fallen off the bed! I feel so terrible for letting that happen. She cried and I cried but no blood or bruises (thank God!) and she quickly shook it off when kitty came to investigate.

So now were up, she is happy and were playing. Mommy feels rough tho and takes Motrin. Not sure why little Miss slept all night while Auntie L was here?????? Now for new Mommy fowls 2 and 3..... It would seem that I ground up a baby washcloth in my disposal, found that this morning, Think I fixed it tho. Then I am taking the load of laundry out of the washer and it seems that I washed a disposable diaper????? Luckily it was just a number 1 used diaper. Can you imagine how disgusting that could have been?? Luckily I found it before the dryer too.

Now I leave you with a picture of my princess this morning after the bed adventure. See she is fine :) I will be gong to Target today for bed rails.

Also had to post little miss in her first pair of jeans! Is that not the cutest hiney:)

First head band, lasted minus 1 second :)

This is Abby and one tired Mamma signing off........

You can use a pillow on the other side of the bed-under the covers - then tuck the covers in under the mattress-holds it firm - I still do that with my 3 yr old - and yep - she fell off my bed one time as well - new mommy stuff+no sleep - amazing !

may be the first time- won't be the last! :)

sweetheart - EVERY mommy has an accident (heck - a FEW accidents)If someone tells you they didn't - THEY ARE LYING.
my worst was when my daughter was an infant and in her walker, I was at my mothers house. She thought I put the baby gate up, I thought she put the baby gate up.
Yep. My daughter went down the stairs. She stayed upright the whole way down - the walker never tipped over, but do you know the sound that walker made going down the stairs? My heart dropped. We were in the kitchen drinking coffee, and I dropped the coffee cup on the floor and went running. There my daughter sat at the bottom of the stairs - totally unhurt.

There.
You see.
We all mess up. no one is perfect.

I love it - I am giggling. Not about the fall but, hey, life happens and you're muddling through very well.

I hope you mean that you fixed the disposal. I had a mental image of you piecing together a little washcloth in the wee hours under a bright light.

so glad she is calling you momma so soon!! YEAH!! isn't that the BEST thing you have heard so far??? just wait till she says i love you for the first time=) anyhow just a few blips on what will one day be Opps's you could write a novel on. my worst... when miss loghan was 4 months old we went to NC for a baby shower. when we got there we moved the base of her car seat to our friends car and went to dinner. responsible, huh? well the next am i went to the store and decide to bring lc with me. john had put the car seat base back in my car so i just clicked the infant seat into the base and left. well...next thing i know i turn onto a major highway and hear a crashing noise. i look back in the mirror and no loghan... yes, the base was NOT secured in the seat and loghan, the infant seat AND the base were upside down on the other side of the back seat. i had to pull off the road for 20 micutes to compose myself. she was not hurt (didn't even cry which scared me more), but my ego was!! 2nd child... wow! no cell phone either=) the moral of this LONG tale is that yes, we screw up and forget and fall asleep, but our babies are tough and hell, it gives them (and us) character!! in the grand scheme of things, it is funny. MUAH!!

Ah, don't beat yourself up, Mom. It's OK. During the day, sleep when Abby sleeps so that you have energy for these long nights. Soon you'll both be back on schedule. (I used the same trick as chinazhoumom when we first got home from China.)

Everybody falls off the bed at least once during their childhood. I'm glad she's okay!

I'm sure there's a learning curve to motherhood. It sounds like you are doing just fine.

Get some rest!

Eliza is looking at Abby saying, "LaLa". It's true that there is a learning curve...remember when I first came home and I tripped and fell outside ON TOP OF ELIZA?!!! I thought I had killed her. Also, Eliza fell off the bed for the first time a few weeks ago (while I was catching up on my T.V. time. I felt sick. She was fine. She has never fallen out while I've been in bed with her. The trick is that you push your bed against a wall, she sleeps on the wall side and you sleep on the other side. Works like a charm! Abby is so cute! I love seeing the two of you together. The jet lag kicked my butt in the beginning. I don't even think I knew it at the time, but looking back, it was rough. Things do eventually get to a somewhat normal state!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Remember you're battling jet lag, a time difference, and getting over being sick in addition to trying to figure out the new mommy thing. I think you'll be just fine.

Ha! Sounds like a case of Mommy brain + sleep deprivation. My babes fell off the bed once, but I wasn't brave enough to tell anyone but dh. Now, we use the pillow barrier method. :-)
I'm so glad to see you with your daughter! She looks so happy and of course so do you!

Oh, don't worry! Briana fell off the bed about a month after I got her home. I swear, I turned my back for one second - just one! Then boom, she was on the floor. I felt horrible! See, we all make mistakes!!!

I had to chuckle at your post. That jetlag and being sick just sucks doesn't it!! Everything will be fine though. You're doing a great job at mommyhood. And, like everyone said, we've all made mistakes. Here's to week two coming soon when life will start to feel a little more normal.

Relax Jen, you survived some pretty major falls at the same age as Abby. It took a long time for my heart to get back in a normal rhythm too after each one. xo Mom

As a single mom, I well remember how hard it is. I concur with everyone else...you MUST sleep when she does. I don't care what you think you "must" get done. Otherwise, you're dead meat! My worst screw up...accidently slamming the car door HARD on T's fingers. Luckily, nothing broke.

My last bit of unasked for advice...simplify your life. If there's any way you can swing it, get a cleaning lady to come in, even if its once a month for the heavy cleaning. Best money you'll ever spend.

Wishing you peaceful sleep,

Carol and Taylor

You poor thing! Jet lag is rough!! No flaming here...sadly just stuff we sadly have to learn the hard way and most of us have or will go through it.

Your diaper washing and disposal mishaps made me snicker. Guess we don't realize how important sleep is...until we don't get it.

Hoping tonight is a good night for both of you.

Yup - did the same thing with Lilly! And - I think our kids put us through mommy-hazing, that is why she slept for Laurie and not you! We can't wait to see you once life has calmed down. For us...the first week home was a total blur, the next three weeks were better but still a blur. I thought life got normal around week 5...here's hoping Abby is a better sleeper than Lilly!!!

Don't worry. We all fall off beds.
Just Thankful she didn't hurt herself. It's a bit scary though!
Once my daughter was heading off the bed and I got her by 1 ankle!!
Poor kid was dangling by an ankle as I hauled her back up!!
Welcome to Mommyland!!

You are suffering from New Mommy Brain mush. It happens to all new mommies, just consider it a rite of passage.

Oh how cute!!! Sorry about the little boo-boo's, but hey, you're a momma now, so those things are going to happen! :)

Love the jeans!! And how sweet it must be to hear her little voice calling for you. Hope you're feeling better and rested up soon!

The jet lag is bad enough but being sick as well. Yuck! I hope you both are felling better soon.

The love you have for each other is so evident in the pictures and video. It is so sweet! You are a great Mom. Just keep a sense of humor, have fun and laugh. We all have had similar experiences.

We went to visit my sister this weekend. Luke fell out of the bed in the middle of the night. Scared me to death--he slept through it all. I wish I could sleep so soundingly. LOL!

I'm just getting caught up! Welcome home!! And welcome to motherhood! Abby is such a cutie and you all look very happy to be home. We were sick when we got home too. Thank goodness for friends and family. Take it easy and rest when you can. Things will get back to your new kind of normal...eventually!

I think this is New Mommy With Major Jet Lag! Hope it gets better very soon. I can't imagine what that washer would have looked (or smelled) like had that been a poopy diaper :O)

Your post made me laugh; I can't tell you how many used diapers I've fished out of the laundry basket when I've gone to do the wash. Abby is a cutie pie, love those jeans!
