Some Firsts

Oh my sweet girl had some firsts today! The first three pictures are from yesterday. Doesn't she look sweet? Still walking at times but wobbles and falls are on the increase.

Walking her lion :)

My baby got her first booboo (with me anyway) today. Poor thing was all ready to go to the park when she took a spill. She was walking and holding her juice bottle when she tripped over her lion and down she went face first on her bottle. I picked her up right away as she cried and saw blood spilling from her mouth. Not a lot but still! She then was silent building up to the big cry while I cuddled her and reassured her. She does that sometimes, takes a breath and all is silent til the big cry scream rings out. This time she held her breath a long time, I was holding her next to the sink and her face and lips got purple! Totally freaked me out! I yelled breath Abby and she finally let her cry out! Poor baby. She has done that before when really upset (rarely) but never that long or til her face and lips got purple! Has any one else had their child do this? What do I do?? Lord I hope she never does it again.....

She then let me cuddle her and calmed right down, I put a cold rag to her mouth and saw a little cut on her lip, about 1/4 cm at most. It was oozing so I got out one of her teething rings from the fridge. She liked that and the oozing of blood stopped. Then once she was calm and distracted I gave her some tylenol and some cold juice and then she was fine. Acted like nothing had happened. That took several years off of me tho.

Here she is shortly after her fall drinking her juice. I had to change her outfit cause the sweater had blood on it but didn't she look cute :)

Then we went on to the park since she seemed fine. It was 55 degrees today! The warmest since she has been home. I put her on the swing and she loved it :):)

If you look close you can see her lip :(

I put her down on the grass to see what she would do. She didn't mind it. I had heard that some adopted children do.

We also tried the slide but the swings were definately the big hit of the day.

Then we went for a little walk. My baby fell asleep. It was her nap time by then. Mom if you are reading this, bring us the big stroller next time you come.

Last night was her first night sleeping in her own room in her own crib. We had been doing the pack and play in my room up til then. I don't think she was really comfy tho so yesterday we did a trile run using her crib at nap time and she did fine. Last night I decided to try her first night time in her crib. I felt sad tho, and was afraid something might happen to her or what if I don't hear her if she cries?? I know, I am a geek but I really considered taking her out and putting her back in the pack and play in my room. It felt strange after sharing a room with her for 16 days. So I decided to bunk down in her room for the night just in case she needed me. She did fine, just up once for a bottle then right back down. me on the other hand did not have a good night sleep. The floor was hard. So tonight I put her in her own crib again but I will be sleeping in my bed tonight or maybe on the couch???? I know.......... baby steps :)

The picture below was taken tonight. She looks so small and fragile in there all by herself. Also in case your wondering, she has a fatlip but ate a good dinner tonight and played like normal. I gave her some motrin before bed too. Sweet dreams little girl.....

Ahhhh a breath holder. My DD was ( still is on rare occasions) a breath holder. Mostly when she was hurt, on occasion when she was mad.

Blue lips, leg twitching, on one occasion passing out. Yeah way to scare the poo out of a person.

Mama called the doctor and the doctor said......."the worst that can happen is she will pass out, the moment she passes out she will start breathing"

That advice sounds harsh, but on further reading I discovered it is true.

A couple of people suggest I throw water on her... NOT

Oh my doctor also said breath holding is genetic. According to him breath holders always have a bio parent that did the same. Always interesting to hear when you are an adoptive parent.

My reading suggest that breath holding peaks in the toddler years and most kids outgrow it by 5. We found this to be mostly accurate tho we have had a couple of episodes between 5 and 8.

Remember to warn other care givers. As you can attest it is the scariest thing ever.

My sister was a breath holder too. Our advice was also that if the worst happened and she passed out then she would immediately start breathing as her body would have relaxed. Luckily she - and we - never had to find out! Very scary, but I think that is the worst of it. And the scream the would follow would wake the dead! :)

We have had two breath holders, one worse than the other. What has always worked for us is blowing in their face. It kind of startles them into taking that breath in. I have heard though if that doesn't work and they do pass out they will eventually start breathing then (glad I never had to find out the hard way).

loghan used to hold her breath. if i remember correctly, she always started screaming on her own. i don't think there is a lot you can do to force it. abby will grow out of it... i can't get over how much she has already grown. so beautiful=) hang in there mommy... it is a roller coaster!

She looks adorable in both outfits. What a dolly. Ava has had the prolonged scream when hurt before but not really extended breath holding- that would be very scary. You might try blowing on her face when she does this. I have a baby niece that holds her breath for longer times (not to that extreme) and that is what my sister does with her.

Awwwwww, poor Abby. We had boo-boo bunny in the freezer at all times for Ali. It was a pink wash cloth folded a certain way to look like a bunny. The body of the bunny could hold an ice cube.

Is she standing on her tippy toes at the picnic table with those adorable crocs?

There is no doubt about it - Abby is a cutie-pie!

Poor baby, hope her lip heals quickly! Wow - I've just read all the other comments about "breath holders" - isn't it fantastic to be in a community where people can share from their own experience?

I think its when kiddies are "bare feet" that they don't like the grass? I love that panda range from gymbo! I think I have the jumper (somewhere!)

We've endured plenty of cut lips. We had one on Sunday as a matter of fact. They heal.

Glad she had fun at the park. I so wish we had a park nearby but Arkansas is too poor to have things like that everywhere. No neighborhood parks or pools :(

Wait till she starts walking really well. Be on the look out then. You don't get another moments peace after that!

OMG- she is SO adorable. I love the swing pictures!

Lily does the "I don't breath for about 20 seconds" cry too. It makes me so sad!

You are such a good mom!

Even with a fat lip she is gorgeous! I love hearing all your concerns as they sound exactly like what my worries would be too! I'll be calling you for reassurance! Despite the boo-boo, it sounds as if all is well. She knows her mommy is there to take care of her. =)

Abby is so cute!!! I love that little dress, and the hat is to die for! So sorry about the ouchie! I don't know what to tell you about her holding her breath...Chloe doesn't do that. But as far as sleeping in her bed, I can tell you that I LOVE my Graco I-Monitor. Super quiet, really transmits all of the noise from Chloe's room. I couldn't live without mine, because we all sleep with our doors shut. I can hear Chloe crystal clearly--I keep that monitor with me at all times when she's in her room. Good luck!

Sorry, I read your post just as I was leaving today. Stroller is now assembled (I may not be able to handle cribs today but the stroller was a breeze). I'll get it to you. Just so you know, Da requested a little photo book to carry around with him! xo Mom

She is just too adorable!!! That whole "holding the breath" thing would freak me out...but it looks like you got some great advice here...thank goodness! I haven't posted in awhile, as I've been major sick...get ready for the world of having a child in daycare. But anyhow...Abby is just stunning, and I'm re-living my experience through you. Leila and I just celebrated our 2 years together...it's amazing how quickly it goes...so cherish every second...and you're so good about keeping up your blog...don't stop like I did...you'll regret it...even though it may be tough to post sometimes...keep it up as much as you can.

Gotta scoot...love the pic's and the stories, keep'um coming!

Heather

P.S. Loved the posts by Aunt Laurie, while you were away...she was a hoot!
